Dog Doors in Kansas City

Posted In: Company News by Paul Mallory

Dog doors are a great convenience for busy pet owners. But most pet doors are not energy efficient due to their design. If you have ever seen a dog door after a few years of use the plastic flap can be warped and the magnets no longer seal well.

Dog using Plexidor pet door

We offer dog door sales and installation for Plexidor pet doors. They are the most advanced pet door available today. They are the only door with acrylic plexiglass that hinge in the middle and provide the most advanced weatherproof seal available. The plexiglass panels are the same material used in airplane windows. With a 5 year warranty and high quality nylon pile weather seal the Plexidor pet door is your answer for ease of pet entry and exit.

These dog doors can be installed in several types of house doors including wood, metal, and many other materials. We also install pet doors in house walls. Even if you have brick or stucco on the exterior of your house dog door installation can still be done without damaging the exterior siding.
We offer free estimates on dog or cat door installation. Call us today at 816-454-7297 or 913-381-7297.

The word “fence” is searched at google.com more than 3 million times per month, in the United States, according to Google’s keyword tool while the term “dog fence” is searched only 135,000 times per month.

The common public perception is that traditional fencing (wood fence, vinyl fence, chain link fence, wrought iron fence) is a safer method to contain pets compared to pet fencing. A lot of people believe that dogs have more of a chance to escape the yard if they have a pet containment system.

Our company has installed numerous electric dog fences for pet owners whose dogs climb, jump, or dig under the fence and escape out of an open gate a child leaves open.  Our company believes that a professionally installed dog fence is actually a much safer pet containment option than a traditional fence solution.

I remember years ago when a lady in Leawood, KS called our company in distress.  She had just spent $4,500.00 on a 4 foot tall wood picket fence for her back yard. The first day she let her Golden Retriever out in the yard her dog jumped the fence. When I arrived at her home and gave her a quote that was 70% less cost for our Pet Stop pet fence system she was sick.  She realized she could have saved herself a ton of money and saved the cost of having to maintain a wood fence. We installed our dog fence for her and included the front yard so if her dog escaped out the front door or garage door the dog was safely contained.

Average cost of a wood fence according to costhelper.com is around $2,500 to $3,000 for only 200 linear feet. This is an average cost of $12.50 per foot.  The cost per foot for professionally installed pet fencing averages $2.60 to $4.00 per foot for an average size yard with one dog. The cost savings is gigantic not to mention most dog fences are installed to cover the front and back yard unlike traditional fencing which only covers the back yard most of the time.

If we can help solve your pet containment needs please call us today at 816-454-7297 or 913-381-7297.  We install our pet fence systems from Topeka Kansas to Odessa Missouri and from St. Joseph Missouri to Harrisonville Missouri. Visit our website at www.petfencekc.com.

Pip the dog and summer vacation

Posted In: Pet Stories by williamrock

The story begins while attempting to pack a 6′ X 12′ Uhaul trailer hitched to a 15 passenger van.  With our family (8 girls and 2 boys) this was no small undertaking. We were attempting quite an adventure. Traveling from Kansas City to Coeur d’Alene Idaho with 10 children packed in our Chevy express van was, to say the very least, an adventure. We were on our way for a week long vacation in a beautiful vacation rental home to attend a family friend’s wedding.

After all cargo and children were loaded we hit the open road even though Dad was worried about the Uhaul trailer tires (suppose to be new). Bad trailer tires cost us a lot of time through the Montana mountains not to mention stress for Dad in the mountain wind.  According to Mapquest this trip should take 24 to 25 hours. However, when you have 10 children and bad trailer tires try 36 hours…..yes, no joke 36 hours.  Dear old Dad made the insane (just a little male pride involved) decision to drive straight through. Will not do that again.

Just watching the expressions on people’s faces as 10 kids unload out of our big blue van was quite entertaining.  During the trip (with frequent stops along the way as you can imagine) one of the funniest events was to watch all 10 children unload and head into McDonald’s or a rest stop just to use the restroom.  Mom was insistent that the little kid’s potty chair was to be carried into the restroom to avoid little bottoms coming in contact with a potential STD. My older kid’s could not have been more embarrassed. Arguments ensued as to who would carry the potty chair the next time. My older kids have since sworn they will never be seen with any potty chair again on future trips.

After finally arriving in Coeur d’Alene Idaho we gladly met our family friend’s and started unpacking the van. It took 2 days for Dad to recover from the 36 hour road marathon and for him to not be the family grump.  While in Coeur d’Alene we enjoyed the famous Hudson’s Hamburgers.  They are famous for a reason. The kids also enjoyed swimming in Coeur d’Alene lake and playing in the park.

About 3 days into our vacation a little dog just happened to show up at our vacation rental home.  I thought to myself: This means trouble. So, of course, we fed the little fella. The kids were becoming attached to little “Pip” (pictured above) as he became affectionately called.  We went around the neighborhood trying to find Pip’s owner, made a trip to a local vet to see if Pip had a chip that would reveal his owner’s identity, and called the local Animal Control to see if someone was looking for Pip.  All of this turned up nothing. After finding out that there was only a 3 to 5 day kill law in Coeur d’Alene there was no way we could leave Pip knowing that.  So, you know what happened next. Pip was part of the family now. Of course, the kid’s reminded me that we could just put a pet fence collar on Pip and it would all work out great back home.

I warned the kid’s that if the owner called and identified the dog on our way back home that we would not be able to keep Pip the dog. All the while Dad is still thinking to himself….do we really need 3 dogs along with 10 kids?

We left for Kansas City with Pip on board.  The kids were all giddy and excited.  All was well for about 500 miles.  Then came the infamous phone call from Pip’s owner who distinctly identified the dog. Fortunately, Pip’s owner actually had a sister who lived 40 miles from Billings Montana which is where we were.  So, we pulled into a parking lot and let the kids tearfully play with Pip (real name was Banjo) for about 45 minutes and then they waved tearfully goodbye. Needless to say it was a sad ride home for the little ones. Honestly, Dad was not overly upset about this turn of events because 2 dogs are enough with 10 kids but the story does not end here.

Arriving back home life is returning to routine and I am hearing from my little ones that they are praying for a new puppy.  I knew I was toast and might as well give up. Sure enough I go visit my Aunt and what does she mention? She has 2 little yorkie pups that are only 9 weeks old (not one but two). I think to myself: I really do not want to hear that but my conscience got the better of me. So in another week or so the little Yorkies Buster and Teddy (which are pictured here with our girls) arrived.

Now with 4 dogs and 10 kids life is even busier.  Summer vacation turned out to be quite the adventure. Buster and Teddy are now safely contained with our Pet Stop pet fence system along with Sugar and Balto. And Dad is still trying to figure out how to housebreak Buster and Teddy.

Pet Stop pet fence systems is staying on the cutting edge of technology and improving there pet fence product line. In November 2010 they introduced there new OT-300 transmitter and the UltraTuff dog fence receiver collar.

The OT-300 transmitter comes with improved lightning protection, a digital display indicating radio signal footage, has incredible programming capability for adjusting correction levels, comes with a wire break alarm, and is the only electric dog fence on the market that comes with 4 different frequencies which can also be programmed to work with other dog fences.  Most pet fence transmitters only have 2 frequencies which can be a major problem if you have one or more neighbors that already have a pet fence installed. Multiple frequency options ensure consistent operation.

The new UltraTuff receiver collar comes loaded with benefits and features.  The UltraTuff receiver has twice the plastic thickness of any other dog fence receiver collar on the market. And to prove it is tough Pet Stop offers a lifetime chew damage warranty should Fido attempt to destroy it.

The Pet Stop UltraTuff dog fence receiver can be programmed to work with most competitive systems. It boasts an audible warning along with 14 different levels of correction and a low battery indicator light.  It also boasts some of the lowest and highest correction levels which are completely safe for pets of any breed and size. Lastly, it comes with “Stopper Mode”.  Stopper mode ensures that if a stubborn pet attempts to run through the pet fence boundary the UltraTuff receiver collar will continue correcting the dog on the other side of the boundary. This is rarely needed but a nice option to have should you have a stubborn dog.
